Cyprus sits at the peak of the temperature rollercoaster Saturday, ahead of the first strong cold front that will cross the Eastern Mediterranean this season.
The cold front is expected to affect the area during Saturday night – early hours of Sunday gradually from the northwest and moving to the east – southeast. Scattered showers are expected ahead of the cold front with the chance for a thunderstorm or two mainly over northern parts of the island.
As the cold front continues to sweep the Estern Mediterranean, a sudden drop in temperatures is expected of a total of around 10-12 degrees Celsius between Saturday and Monday max temperatures. During Monday temperatures are expected to range from 5-8 degrees Celsius below the seasonal average.
At the same time winds will gradually strengthen from western – northwestern directions at first during Saturday night and will gradually shift to northern – northwestern directions with further strengthening during Sunday.
Kitasweather has issued a Yellow Warning for near gale force to gale force northerly winds!!!
Temperatures falling below freezing over the highest mountains and especially over the highest peaks of Troodos with the first snowfall of the season expected during Sunday-Monday with some periods of snow possibly persisting into Tuesday. Although well below freezing temperatures are expeted, any snowfall will be light with some dusting of snow at times and light snow accumulations.
